Colorado Parks and Wildlife stated it can shut a brief section of the Arkansas River close to Salida whereas it removes a dam.

The low-head dam is positioned 1.5 miles upstream from the Mount Shavano State Fish Hatchery and was first constructed round 1956 to gather water for the hatchery downstream. CPW stated the removing of the dam would profit the river’s fish by opening about 85 miles of river upstream to fish migration.
