This isn’t an animal, mineral or vegetable. It’s not a fungus, both. It’s a Slime Mould. Slime Moulds spend most of their time as single-celled organisms dwelling independently and feeding within the soil on micro organism, fungal spores and different natural materials. When they’re prepared, they collect collectively and emerge, on this case onto moist grass, and produce spores to allow them to reproduce.

This one is Mucilago crustacea, the Canine’s Vomit Slime Mould.

Charming, isn’t it?
